Laser Assisted Hatching
Embryo hatching improves the chances of implantation of embryos in the uterus. Assisted Hatching is done before implanting embroys back to the uterus, a small hole is made in the external layer of the embryo, using specialized laser equipment.
This procedure is normally being performed using a micro needle or laser to cause the disruption of outer shell of the embryo. During the process of this treatment, the external shell of the embryo is broken by discharging a couple of laser bursts. The laser is kept at a distance and in such manner that it does not hurt the embryo inside the membrane.
This procedure greatly enhances the chances of the embryo to grow come out of the shell, implant, and result in a pregnancy
Pre-Implantation Genetic Screening / Diagnosis
PGS, (preimplantation genetic screening), stands for testing of overall chromosomal normalcy in IVF embryos. It involves taking embryo biopsy from an IVF embryo and screen for normal number of chromosomes before embryo transfer. PGS involves checking the chromosomes of the embryos conceived by IVF/ICSI for common abnormalities. Chromosomal abnormalities are a major cause of the failure of embryos to implant and of miscarriages/abortions.
Most of the patients are confused for the condition in which PGS is best for you. Before any decision about genetic testing is taken, we review each couple and offer the best possible option to them. It can be performed for a patient at high risk of carrying an inheritable genetic disease. Using this technique, embryos that do not carry the disease can be selected for transfer.
PGD (preimplantation genetic diagnosis),
PGS and PGD are both advanced technologies in assisted reproduction and both help to improve success rates in IVF procedure. PGD helps eliminate genetic disorders. Best IVF clinics these days have embryo culture and vitrification technology in place to improve success rates. Both these technologies along with PGS and PGD are great help to improve IVF success rates. PGS/PGD may not be necessary in most cases but in repeated IVF failure cases it helps to find healthy embryos for implantation.
PGD involves extracting a cell from the IVF embryo and tests it for some specific genetic condition or disorder like cystic fibrosis. Once it's examined and identified to be safe it's transfered to the child.
Endometrial Receptivity Array (ERA)
Endometriosis is a test carried out to check the window of implantation for best results. It is a very common medical condition which affects women in their reproductive ages. This medical condition includes the endometrium forming outside the uterus, mostly on ovaries, fallopian tubes, bowel, and the pelvic tissue linings. Endometrium is the inner lining of the uterus which thickens during the menstrual cycle, preparing the uterus for embryo implantation. Endometriosis also affects IVF unfavorably, from diminishing the count of eggs at the time of retrieval to bad egg quality, and reduces implantation and pregnancy rates. However, IVF allows most of the endometriosis patients to still be able to conceive.
